This comprehensive 6-day course combines a review of crucial interpersonal communication skills with core mediation principles. You will be working in groups and alone to develop new skills that are relevant to all relationships around you – at home, at work and in community settings.
COURSE INTRODUCTION – a brief 1-hour introductory session to meet fellow participants, outline IT access information and support and do a course overview
Day 1 – UNDERSTANDING CONFLICT – conflict dynamics, re-framing, and essential interpersonal skills
Day 2 – YOU AND CONFLICT – our impact in any conflict we are involved in, including as mediators
Day 3 – WHAT IS MEDIATION? – core principles and the skills you need to hold the space as a mediator
Day 4 – THE MEDIATION PROCESS – understanding its future-focused, participant-led format
Day 5 – HOLDING THE SPACE – review of the techniques used to contain challenging discussions
Day 6 – PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE – AND NEXT STEPS – you will be keen to get lots of practice and you will.

Hen Wilkinson
Hen has been practising as an accredited mediator since the 1990s, working across a range of fields and environments: community, workplace, extended family dynamics, special educational needs, and so on. She is an experienced trainer and lecturer both in the room and online, having taught related modules at the universities of the West of England, Bristol, London, Amsterdam and beyond. For decades, Hen has encouraged teams, organisations and local communities to understand and normalise conflict and to see it as a route to creativity and sustainable collaboration.
